Eye, ENT, and Dental Emergencies
Introduction:
Knowledge and skills in the evaluation of acute eye, ENT, and dental disorders are often lacking in the new emergency medicine provider because education in this area is eclipsed by the need to learn about the evaluation of chest and abdominal pain, dyspnea, and the critically ill patient. Eye, ENT, and dental disorders do not usually present as life threats, but they are common presentations to the emergency department. In addition, there are some conditions that may result in permanent disability. As in all of the EMCT modules, we will give you a broad overview of the important emergent Eye, ENT, and dental conditions that you are likely to encounter. You will then be challenged with patient scenarios at the end of this module that will help you build on your differential diagnosis skills and improve your ability to work-up and manage these patients.
