Dermatologic, Allergic/Immunologic and Infectious Diseases Emergencies, and Wound Management Module
Introduction:
Welcome to the Dermatology and Wound Management Module, part of the EMCT series of core modules. In this module we will be discussing a variety of dermatologic conditions, and the dermatologic manifestations of some allergic and immunologic disorders as well. We will also discuss the management of wounds and infections of the skin. The skin does more than just protect underlying structures from the environment around us, it helps to maintain a healthy functioning body and a state of homeostasis.
As in other EMCT modules, we will again help you build on your knowledge of the integumentary system and give you the tools to build a solid differential diagnosis when faced with a variety of dermatologic conditions. We will start below with a general overview of integumentary anatomy and physiology, then go on to a discussion of the various pathophysiologic processes of the skin and their management. We will conclude this lesson, as in all EMCT modules, with several challenging patient scenarios so you can learn to work up and manage an array of complaints as you work through various pathophysiologic processes related to the skin.
